Hospital fair a huge success
Prevost Memorial Hospital celebrated it 26th annual health fair on Saturday, June 7, 2008. There was an overwhelming response to the fair once again this year. Our records indicate that 250 people registered on Saturday, 489 SMAC tests were performed, 192 participants received the carotid screen, 190 pulse oximetry tests were performed, and approximately 147 patients received skin cancer screens. Participants also received body fat testing, hearing screening, and blood pressure monitoring.
On behalf of the Board of Commissioners of Prevost Memorial Hospital, the medical staff and the hospital staff, I wish to thank the citizens of Donaldsonville and the surrounding communities for making this health fair a success. It is gratifying to have so many people have such an interest in this event year after year. I wish to also thank Dr. Mary Dobson, Dr. Amie Shannon and staff with Dermatology Clinic in Baton Rouge; volunteers from CVT Vascular Ultrasound; Ms. Francis Newman and staff, hearing specialist; the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency; Diversified Home Health; Metro Preferred Home Health/Amedisys Hospice; United Blood Services; DaVita Dialysis Center; St. Elizabeth Physicians; Sleep Rite; D'ville House Nursing Home; LaCHIP-Ascension Parish Medicaid; Louisiana Wound Care Specialists; Ms. Nonnie Templet, Diabetes Management and Supplies; and Ms. Alrina Ponville, the Advocacy Center/Ombudsman Program. Over the years these volunteers have contributed unselfishly of their time and energy to make this event a success. All of you have my everlasting gratitude for your continued support of this function.
I wish to thank the members of the ladies auxiliary and the employees of Prevost Hospital who volunteered their time and efforts toward the success of the health fair. Without your help and support none of this would be possible. I am forever grateful for your loyal commitment to this project.
Thanks to Mr. Peter Pasqua and Mr. Bob Prejean with The Chief, Ms. Debbie Peltier with The Chamber Voice, and Mr. Dave Dawson with KKAY radio for the publicity for the health fair. Your efforts are appreciated.
Once again, it was a privilege to host the 26th annual health fair at Prevost Hospital. Several participants commented that the health fair is vital to their health and well being because they do not have health insurance. The health fair affords them the opportunity for a yearly health screen that they may not otherwise have. It is indeed a privilege and a pleasure to serve the health care needs of the citizens of Donaldsonville and the surrounding communities.
