ACHS Boys Basketball ends season with playoff loss to East Iberville

The Ascension Catholic basketball team ended the 2009-10 season in the first round of the playoffs losing to district rival East Iberville 65-53.  The Bulldogs and the Tigers played to a 23-23 tie at the half. 

ACHS used a zone defense and created some fast break opportunities as Junior Myron Dominique converted a lay-up at the buzzer to tie the game at 23.

East Iberville controlled the third quarter with a 23-10 scoring advantage.  ACHS fought back from a 12-point deficit and cut the lead to 6 with 4 minutes remaining.  However, East Iberville seeded #9 held on to the lead and eventually sealed the game with free throws.  Dominique had 13 points for ACHS, followed by Senior Matt Pearce with 11.  Senior Brandon Burns had eight points followed by Seniors Greg Carter and Jesse Pizzalato with seven each.  Senior Frankie Sotile III contributed six and Junior Miles Haydel added 1.  Pearce led the dogs in rebounding with 9 and Dominique had 4 assists and three steals.  ACHS finished the season 12-18 but was able to end a five-year absence from the playoffs.  T

he ACHS administration, coaches and staff would like to thank the team for competing at a high level with class in a tough district.  This game marked the end of the careers of Pearce, Carter, Pizzalato, Burns and Sotile.  Thanks goes out the parents and fans for their support this season.  The ACHS coaching staff looks forward to an exciting 2010-11 season of hoops.
