Ascension Catholic Bulldogs finished the season with a 12-0 victory last Thursday as they dominated against St. John of Plaquemine. They claimed the title of district 8-1A champions.

Pitcher Charles Caballero sent a combination of an eight-run second inning and a complete-game one-hitter that sent ACHS (22-7, 12-0) to its eighth straight win and 12th victory in its last 13 games. The Bulldogs, who finished with nine hits, tacked on four unearned runs in the seventh inning.

The bulldogs ended up with five consecutive singles, and loaded the bases with no outs on three straight singles. Brandon Burns and Taylor Marcello allowed the Bulldogs to advance early with a 2-0 lead.

“Credit goes to them because they did a great job. It wasn’t the errors that we made. They played real well. They hit the ball and we didn’t. We didn’t make the plays,” said St. John coach Heath Whittington.

“We knew that we were going to have a very good baseball team,” said Ascension Catholic coach Tony Landry said. “We hope that there’s bigger things to come but they’re trained to take it one day at a time and that’s what they’ve done.”
