Donaldsonville falls to Denham Springs, 7-6, in jamboree

Donaldsonville running back Tre Brown scored on a 27-yard run with 46 seconds remaining to bring the Tigers of Class 2A within a point of Class 5A Denham Springs Thursday night at Spartan Stadium in Gonzales.

Donaldsonville had a chance to take a late lead, but the 2-point conversion attempt failed as Yellow Jacket defenders swarmed Tiger quarterback Devon Breaux.

Donaldsonville tried an onside kick, but Denham Springs recovered and held on for the win in the Ascension-Livingston Jamboree Challenge.

Breaux led all rushers with 98 yards on 15 carries.

Denham Springs scored on its first possession after driving 70 yards in 15 plays, taking nearly eight minutes of the 15-minute half. The Yellow Jackets converted twice on fourth down before Joshua Miley scored on a 13-yard run.

Donaldsonville finished with a 205-126 advantage in total yards. The Tigers ended two first-half drives in Denham Springs territory. The first ended on a fumble. The second time the Tigers threatened, the clock became an issue. Breaux tried to connect on deep passes around the goalline, but all fell incomplete.

Denham Springs had a chance to pad its lead in the second half with 2:15 left, but a field goal try missed wide right.

Romel Williams led the Yellow Jackets with 54 yards on 12 carries.
