Lady Tigers fall to Winnfield

Staff reports

The Lady Tigers of Donaldsonville High School foresaw another victory in the semi-finals game against Winnfield Lady Tigers.

However, the Lady Tigers of Winnfield put up the winning shot making the score 70-69 as the final buzzer sounded on Tuesday night at Southeastern University gymnasium.

The Lady Tigers trailed by two most of the first and second half, the DHS Tigers tied the score multiple times and even took the lead a couple of times. As the buzzer sounded for halftime, the score read 39-39.

At the start of the third quarter, DHS was refreshed and ready to take the lead, and that is just what they did briefly. The game became an edge of your seat type of game when both teams went to tie, then to up by two, and then by one.

Going into the fourth quarter, Donaldsonville Head Coach Butch Little knew it was time to vamp his girls up even more. With ten seconds left in the game, DHS Tigers have possession of the ball and with a basket made by Kendra Coleman Tigers would take the lead. At five seconds left, the Winnfield Tigers went up for a basket and devastated the DHS Tigers 70-69.

“We knew they (Winnfield) took the ball to the basket hard, and they made their rebounds,” said Coach Little. “Our girls put up a good fight.”

DHS Tigers made it to this point back in 2008 where they were runner-up to John Curtis. Coach Little announced that he would be retiring this year with over 200 game wins under his belt in nine years. He has 752 career wins overall.

Good season Lady Tigers!
