Donaldsonville High took a 32-6 victory over Zachary High to win a seven-on-seven football tournament hosted by Denham Springs High on Saturday.

Host Denham Springs and Hammond High were semifinalists in the seven-team event that also featured a St. Michael, Live Oak and a second Zachary squad.

Zachary took a 16-13 win over Denham Springs in one semifinal; Donaldsonville beat Hammond in triple-overtime in its semifinal.

Donaldsonville was 5-0 on the day. Zachary finished 4-1.

The event was the first seven-on-seven hosted by DSHS since the school installed artificial turf on its football stadium during the spring.

“Everything went really well,” DSHS coach Dru Nettles said. “It was hot, especially in the afternoon before the rain, but we only had a couple go down with cramps. I thought all the teams enjoyed the competition. I know we did.”

Denham Springs is one of the host sites for a 16-team league that begins weekly seven-on-seven play on Wednesday.
