Donaldsonville and East Ascension played to a 14-14 tie in the first game of the annual Ascension jamboree Friday night in Gonzales.

In the opener of the 15-minute preseason games, East Ascension and Donaldsonville both punted on the initial possessions.

East Ascension then put together a drive for a touchdown. After a first down carry by running back Jarmarcus Jarvis, quarterback Adam Miller connected with Chad Hill for a first down. Miller then found Sione Palelei on a scoring pass, giving the host team a 7-0 lead.

Donaldsonville quarterback Devon Breaux hit Leandre James on a touchdown pass to cut the Spartans lead to 7-6. The two-point conversion attempt failed.

Dennis Duronslet returned the ensuing kickoff to midfield to set up another score. Miller then found Hill on the right side for another touchdown pass.

East Ascension's Tyrous Wilson intercepted a pass to give the ball back to the hosts, but Donaldsonville went on to add another score when the Tigers recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. Breaux added the two-point conversion with a quarterback keeper to the left side.

Dursonslet then broke another long kickoff return, setting up good field position for the Spartans.

A long play was called back for holding, then James pulled down an interception for Donaldsonville.
