Ascension Catholic notches first district win

The Bulldogs beat Ascension Christian Lions of Gonzales in District 9A action 28-6 this past Thursday night at Floyd Boutte Memorial Stadium.  Ascension Catholic got it going early with a touchdown pass from Collin Rowland to Jake Lejuene. 

The Bulldogs added a second touchdown in the first quarter when Cade Schexnayder scored from four yards out. Robert Landry nailed the first of two field goals from 20 yards out.  ACHS led 17-0 after the first quarter.

The Bulldogs defense held the Lions in check in the first half with strong defensive line play from Ryan Rodrigue, Matt Reed and Delmond Landry.  The Bulldogs added a touchdown pass from Rowland to Thomas Gros, a safety from the defense and a 34 yard field goal from Landry.

The Lions added a late touchdown to make the final margin 28-6.

Rowland threw for 248 yards and now has 1,191 yards and 10 touchdowns on the season.  The linebacker crew of Trent Burgess, Alex Oliver, Savelle Jacks and Patrick Butler led the Bulldog defense.  Jacks caused a fumble and returned it inside the Lion 10 yard line to set up Schexnayder's touchdown.  ACHS moved to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in district play.  ACHS plays a pivotal game at East Iberville this Friday night, as the Bulldogs are currently standing at #33 in the power rankings (top 32 make the playoffs).
