ACHS girl's basketball win tournament
The ACHS girl's basketball team competed and won the Hosanna Tip Off Classic Tournament last weekend. The team played two games to get to the championship game in which it played against False River and won 53-30.
"It feels great," head coach Shawancy Joseph said about the win. "It was a good win for myself and for the team just to boost their confidence up. I think we did great."
Joseph is in her first season as head coach of the team and said the team is now playing better on defense and are distributing the ball well as a team.
In the game against False River, Kyra Jones led the team in scoring with 17 points. Jordynn Brown added 12 points and freshman Rae'Shaun Malancon put in ten points to contribute.
"Some of our younger girls are stepping up, like Rae'Shaun (Malancon), she's just in ninth grade," Joseph said. "It's making the whole team better because everybody wants to go for the ultimate prize."
Joseph said the team wasn't synced in the first two games of the season but not it's starting to gel.
"Now the girls are starting to trust each other and that's a good thing for us," Joseph said.
