Lady Bulldogs’ 25 seed shows bright future for team

The ACHS Lady Bulldogs basketball team gets the 25th seed in the 1A state playoffs bracket released last Thursday and will go on the road to face number 8 seed Hanson Memorial. In a season that considered a “rebuilding” year, the Lady Bulldogs sit in the playoffs for the consecutive season.
“We should’ve been ranked a little bit higher, but due to the lack of experience and our play during the season,” head coach Shawancy Joseph said about the team’s playoff birth. “We were ranked number 16, hoping to get that home playoff game, but we let a few games slip and it put us in this position. If we continue to play hard and play team ball we can make some noise in the playoffs.”
Joseph said she believes the team is moving in the right direction and the team has come a long way since the beginning of the season.
“We’ve had some ups and some downs, but we finally came together. Those girls are putting everything that they are supposed to be putting out on the floor.”
For the game against Hanson Memorial, Joseph said in the film she’s seen on the team it hustles, is scrappy and its intensity is “very high in every game they play.”
“In order for us to match up we have to bring that same intensity that they are going to bring,” Joseph said. “We have to play together as a team, we have to trust one another. The girls just have to go out there and play there game, and if they do that I like our chances coming out in the playoffs.”
Joseph also talked about the Lady Bulldogs having a bright future if the team continues to work at the pace it is now. She said they’ll be able to develop the young kids coming from the middle school and will have them playing at the level they are supposed to be playing on.
“We are going to get there, it’s just going to take some time, hard work and dedication from myself the other coach and the players.”
Joseph said the support the team is getting really helps the players and helps build the program.
“They are doing a good job in supporting us. I like our chances and I like the future and where we’re going.”
