The DHS softball team lost its season-opener at Tara 17-7 Monday in a game where the team lost composure in the fifth inning that extended a five-point lead to 10.

Joneshia Smith controlled the mound for the Lady Tigers and pitched in some good spots early on. Head coach Amy Blanchard said as the temperature dropped in the evening so did the team’s morale.

“We were fine through four and I guess the cold weather got the best of us and we missed some spots,” Blanchard said.

The team was led in hitting by Kasha Jones who tallied three runs batted in (RBI) and also Kayla Hernandez who recorded two doubles and three RBIs.
