West only Tiger to take first at Hornet Invitational

Senior Patrice West earned two first place finishes at the Scotlandville Hornet Invitational to lead the DHS track and field team Friday.

West finished first in the shot put throw with a distance of 36’2” and grabbed the blue ribbon in the javelin throw recording a mark of 86’5”.

At the meet, the Tigers had several top-8 finishes but not many placed in the top-3 at the invitational.

For the boys, Floyd Foster, Jr. finished fifth in the shot put with a distance of 36’5.5” and Michael Favorite placed fifth in the javelin throw with a mark of 118’2”.

The girl’s team had a better outing earning a few top finishes in the sprint events to score some points for the Tigers.

Senior Maiya Miles finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.95. Miles would also get some glory on the relay teams.

First, the 800-meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 1:49.18 who consisted of: Chelsey Brown, Courtland Jenkins, Beaunca Lewis and Miles.

Later on in the day, the 400-meter relay team finished fifth with a time of 53.17 who consisted of: Allegra Asberry, Jenkins, Lewis and Ka’Lynn Jupiter.

And to round out the evening for the Tigers, the 1600-meter relay team finished fifth with a time of 4:51.93 who consisted of Corione Howard, Miles, Lewis and Jupiter.

The Tiger will host its next meet, Tiger Relays, at Donaldsonville High School in Donaldsonville Friday, March 22.
