The Ascension Parish Recreation Department children participated in the Donaldsonville Local Hershey Track Field games at Donaldsonville High School Track on May 18. Each child was given an opportunity to compete in the State Meet held in Lafayette at Lafayette High School. At the Local Meet, about 30 participants and out of the 30 about 15 participates qualified for the state meet. Unfortunately due to timing with the state event a lot of kids were not able to participate. The kids that were able to come, came in full swing and competed very well. This was the third year that the Ascension Parish Recreation Department has coordinated the local event and third year participating in state meet. Every year the number varies in participation.

“We would like to get the word out that the Hershey Track and Field Event is a free event to the Donaldsonville Community and surrounding areas,” the APRD said in a release. “It gives the kids in each Louisiana community to compete against each other and offers a since of diversity.”

The APRD is pushing parents to log on to the parish website:  under recreation tab and view local newspapers for recreation updates.

“We would like to thank our local sponsor CF Industries.”
