CORAL GABLES – Jasman Marks has been hired as an assistant strength coach with oversight of the University of Miami women's basketball and swimming teams, the university announced Monday.

“We are all so excited to add Jasman Marks to our staff,” head women's basketball coach Katie Meier said. “I think the success he has had at SMU, and certainly his approach in terms of individual player development, has been real evident throughout his career.”

Marks comes to Miami after spending the last two and a half years as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at SMU.

“Talking to all the coaches, they had just wonderful things to say about the program and also the players,” Marks said.

Most recently at SMU, Marks had strength and conditioning oversight of the women's basketball and swimming programs, while also assisting with the football program. Previously, Marks oversaw the women's golf and women's tennis program for a year.

Before being hired by SMU, Marks spent time on the strength and conditioning staffs at LSU and with the New Orleans Voodoo of the Arena Football League. For three years, Marks also served as the sports performance director of Velocity Sports Performance—a company that specializes in providing professional level training to athletes of all ages.

“We were especially intrigued by his preventative approach of using conditioning as injury prevention and his ability to motivate and coach the individual student-athletes to their strengths,” Meier added.

Marks completed his undergraduate work at Nicholls State, where he earned a degree in sports science and wellness. Later, Marks received his master's degree in kinesiology with a concentration in coaching education from Georgia Southern.

“It's a great place for me to continue to grow as a strength and conditioning coach as well as a chance to work with the best student-athletes at the University of Miami,” Marks added. “It's a great opportunity for me.”
