ACHS softball finishes as 1A State Runner-up

The ACHS softball team hold up its State Runner-Up trophy in 1A in Sulphur last week.

SULPHUR - The Cedar Creek Lady Cougars (19-12) ended the third ranked Ascension Catholic Lady Bulldogs (25-7) title run Saturday evening in the Class 1A finals in a 6-0 shutout victory.

Ascension Catholic’s sophomore pitcher Julia Beck who was nearly perfect throughout the whole playoffs lost her mojo on the mound Saturday evening giving up six runs on seven hits.

It took the Lady Cougars four innings to completely get Beck’s timing down, but they figured it they were dangerous. Putting up a four run four hit fourth inning rally. Scoring for Cedar Creek in the inning were Harlie Robinson, Katelin Cooper, Nicole Brashear and Lauren Wade taking a 4-0 lead through four complete innings.

The struggling Lady Bulldogs could not find themselves at the plate recording on three hits on the night.

Cedar Creek put the game to bed in the fifth inning adding two more runs to scoreboard, shutting the

Lady Bulldogs out 6-0 to claim the 2014 LHSAA Class 1A State Title.

Beck took the loss on the mound for the Lady Bulldogs allowing six runs on seven hits with five Ks.

Class 4A Tournament MVP Caley Pyles recorded the win on the mound allowing only three hits, while she record three strikeouts.

Raeshaun Melancon and Maggie Blanchard led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate each going 1-for-3.

Pyles, also led the Lady Cougars at the plate going 1-for-4 with three run RBI double, while Katelin Cooper went 2-for-4, Lauren Wade 1-for-for-3 and Halie Robinson 1-for-4.
