Red Stick Sports 16u 007s softball team competed in the Triple Crown Sports Event in Denver, Colorado. With 250+ teams in their group the girls finished third in the division. The girls played hard and showed fight all 10 days playing a total of 16 games. The 7’s finished their final pool bracket on a tie with a team from Texas, which forced them to go head to head, which were still tied and pushed them to the point spread. Being two points shy, they placed in the Silver Bracket as the number 1 seed. As play started in the Silver Bracket, they were one run short when time expired and fell into the loser’s bracket. Finishing first in the loser’s bracket put the team in the championship bracket on Sunday with other teams that finished first in their respective brackets from the gold and bronze brackets. In the championship bracket, the 7’s won their first game by run ruling a team from Tulsa, Ok., and lost the second game to a team from Lutterloh, Calif. by a score of 7-6. As a team, the girls hit a total of 24 homeruns – potentially a tournament record.

The girls also had an opportunity to play on the Dave Sanders Softball Field. Sanders was the softball coach at Columbine High School at the time of the shooting and saved many lives before being shot and killed. The girls also visited the Columbine Memorial where they left an autographed softball signed by members and coach of the 16u.

The girls will be playing in Atlanta this weekend in the Legacy Showcase Tournament.
