Lady Tigers ride a three-game win streak in district play
DHS girls’ basketball team (16-9, 3-1) have put together a three-game win streak in 9-3A district play, with the most impressive win being a 70-4 route at home against Berwick.
The Lady Tigers put the pedal to the metal on Jan. 27 against Berwick, but head coach Nikeya Walker made sure her team learned a lesson even in the lopsided win.
“I wanted our girls to understand sportsmanship and have class even against a weaker opponent because on any night we could be in their shoes,” Walker said. “But I’m proud of my girls and the way they played. We were able to get the younger girls a lot of minutes to help develop them for later down the road.”
Senior guard Xenet Carter led the Lady Tigers with 14 points, all coming in the first quarter. Eleven Lady Tigers added points on the scoreboard, making that the most team contribution this season. Off the bench, sophomore guard Maya Chatman added 14 points of her own, including 10 in the third quarter.
The Lady Tigers will return home on Feb. 10 to host Patterson. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
