Capello wins indoor state title, AC team does well

Ascension Catholic’s Zach Capello repeated as the 3200-meter indoor champion last weekend.

Ascension Catholic senior Zach Capello added another state individual title to his trophy list as he won the 3200-meter run at the Louisiana High School 1A State Indoor Championships at LSU on Feb. 21.  The feat makes Capello the repeat champion in the event as he finished in a time of 9:51. The victory was Capello’s 13th overall individual state championship title.

But Capello doesn’t compete alone, as teammate Hayes Rousseau finished in seventh place in the 800-meter run setting a new indoor school record with a time of 2:04, and Thomas Daigle finished in ninth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.

The girls’ Team was led by Stephanie Breaux who finished third place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:32. Sophie Daigle finished in fourth place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:45. Maerys Joseph finished in sixth place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02. Whitney Eure finished in seventh place in the 800-meter run, setting a new indoor school record with a time of 2:32. The girls’ 1600-meter relay team of Whitney Eure, Sophie Daigle, Stephanie Breaux and Catherine Eure finished in ninth place with a time of 4:32.

The Ascension Catholic Track Team begin its outdoor track season on March 6 at the Thibodaux High School Invitational.
