ACHS girls’ track and field win district, boys’ finish third

Ascension Catholic girls’ track and field team won the district 8-1A title.

The Ascension Catholic Track team competed at the District 8-1-A track Meet on Thursday, April 23. The girls team finished in first place led by freshman Stephanie Breaux who finished first place in the 1600-meter run (5:31), and first place in the 3200-meter run (12:14); Maerys Joseph with a first place in the 800-meter Run (2:23), and first place in the 400-meter run (1:03); Jordynn Brown with a first place in the 100-meter hurdles (17.69) and first place in the long jump (15'6"); Kenshell Davis with a first place in the shot put (34'2"); Carson Hitzman with a first place in the javelin (104'9"); Daija Harvey with a first place in the high jump (5'0"); Nyah Williams with a first place in the 300-meter hurdles, with a new school record time of (49.80) and second place in the 100-meter hurdles (17.76).

Other regional qualifiers include, Sophie Daigle in the 1600-meter run and 3200-meter run. Whitney Eure in the 800-meter run, Gabbie Klack in the 200-meter dash, Brandi Landry in the pole vault, Danielle Brou in the triple jump, and Paige Joseph in the shot put.

The boys’ team finished in third place led by senior Zach Capello with a first place in the 800-meter run, with a new school record time of (1:57), first place in the 1600-meter run (5:11) and second place in the 3200-meter run (12:13). Capello was named District 8-1A Most Valuable Track Athlete.

Jordan Zeringue first place in the 3200-meter run (11:13), Kebori Hunter first place in the high jump (5'8"), and fourth place in the triple jump (39"1'). 

Other Regional meet qualifiers were: Thomas Daigle in the 1600-meter run and 300-meter hurdles, Hayes Rousseau in 800-meter run, Delmond Landry in shot put, and Braxton Clark in javelin.

The above qualifiers will now all compete at the Region 3 1A Regional meet in White Castle.
