DHS girls track and field finish third at district, boys at fifth

DHS boys’ and girls’ track and field teams competed at the 9-3A District track meet at Berwick High School on April 23. The girls’ team finished third overall and the boys’ team finished fifth.

Those who finished in the top-five and will compete at the Regionals meet are:

The girls’ 1600-meter relay team for placing second comprised of Xenet Carter, Erica and Damaris Johnson, and Shai'Honesty Mitchell; Xenet Carter for placing first in the 300-meter hurdles; Erica Johnson on placing first in the 200-meter run; Jasmine Collins on placing fifth in the javelin; Zahria Victor for placing fifth in the 800-meter run; the 400-meter relay team for placing second comprised of Allegra Asberry, Xenet Carter, Shai Honesty Mitchell, and Kelsey Daggs; 800-meter relay team comprised of Kelsey Daggs, Demaris and Erica Johnson and also Shai' Honesty Mitchell, Charlita Price for first place in shot put and Kaylynn Foster for second place in shot put; Kaylynn Foster for third place in discus throw; Kaylynn Foster placed third in javelin throw; Shai’Honesty Mitchell for third place in long jump; and Rwanda Breaux for finishing fourth place in the 800-meter run.

For the boys’ team: Percy Cargo placed fifth in the 100-meter dash; Tamerick Zachary finished fourth place in the 800-meter run; Jason Williams finished fifth in the 1600-meter run; Floyd Foster, Jr. finished second in the shot put and first in the discus throw; and Stephen Sullivan finished fifth place in the high jump.

The Academic All-Distrct 9-3A awards were presented as well to the following: Jasmine Julien, Tuezde Joseph, Xenet Carter, Terelicia Mercadel, Percy Cargo, and Jason Williams.
