Ascension Catholic softball knocked out of quarterfinals

STAFF REPORT @dvillechief

The no. 5 Ascension Catholic softball team met the no. 4 Central Catholic in the quarterfinal round of the LHSAA 1 playoffs on May 1 and came up short with a 1-0 defeat.

The game went into an extra inning and at the bottom of the eighth the game wasn’t decided until Ascension Catholic junior pitcher found herself with bases loaded. Beck had given up four hits and one run in the game and the ACHS defense allowed two errors all in a rare defeat and an unfortunate one that halted the Bulldogs hopes of a championship run in 2015.

In the bottom of the eighth, Central Catholic’s Bridgette Swan walked to the plate with bases and forced a walk to bring home Brooke Lipari for a 1-0 victory.

Both Beck and Central Catholic pitcher Megan Landry struck out 10 opposing batters and held one another's lineups scoreless through the regulation seven innings.
