On Thursday, Aug. 27, Donaldsonville native Vinnie Tortorich came back to his old stomping grounds to reunite with the community.

The celebrity trainer came to the Grapevine Cafe and interacted with fans and old friends that came to chat.

Tortorich has experienced quite the journey since his time in Ascension.

While being a standout on the Ascension Catholic football team, Tortorich earned a scholarship to Tulane.

After his time with the Green Wave, he remained in New Orleans and became a fitness trainer.

At the same time, Tortorich also began to host a radio show on WWWL.

Despite being diagnosed with leukemia in 2007, Tortorich continued to strive athletically.

He refused to let the disease beat him. Instead, he trained for marathon cycling events.

When the cancer went into remission, Tortorich rained money for cancer patients in a non-profit organization called the Maximum Hope Foundation.

In 2012, Tortorich started the "Angriest Trainer" podcast with co-host Anna Vocino.

In addition to being a trainer and podcast host, Tortorich has published two books.

His first book was a best-selling work for children entitled "Monty."

And in 2013, Tortorich released a second book called "Fitness Confidential." The book covers Tortorich's career as a personal trainer.

The book has been optioned by Sony Television for development as a television series.
