Clinton “Three” Johnson III, a Woodlawn sophomore and member of the school's boys basketball team, was shot and killed late Monday evening not long after leaving practice, according to Woodlawn basketball coach Kenny Wayne Goldman. He was 15.

“Three may not be here with me but I know my baby is blessed,” said Johnson’s mother, Sharon, a pastor at In the Beginning Outreach. “They can take my baby’s life, but they can’t take his soul.”

Clinton's death was similar to that of Green Oaks wide receiver Minnion Jackson, who was killed in a shooting about this time last year on I-220

According to police, Johnson was riding a motorbike in the 700 block of Turner Lane, not far from Caddo Middle Magnet, when someone in an SUV pulled up and shot him multiple times. Johnson was transported to Oschner LSU Health Shreveport where he died.

“It just hurts so much. I’m sick and tired of all this gun violence,” Goldman said. “He was like a son to me and he was so excited about being able to our starting point guard. I’d been working with him about getting his grades together.”

Johnson played sparingly last year as a freshman for the Knights, who won the District 1-4A title. He was slated to be a starter this year after last season’s point guard transferred to another Shreveport school.
