LSU women's basketball player collapses during President Joe Biden's speech at White House

During LSU women's basketball's national championship celebration at the White House and President Joe Biden's speech, freshman Sa'Myah Smith collapsed.

The entire team was standing behind Biden as he congratulated the team for winning the program's first national championship when Biden paused as Smith received care after fainting.

LSU coach Kim Mulkey said that Smith "was fine" after the scary moment.

Live video feed from the White House cut out shortly after Smith collapsed. The feed came back and Mulkey stated that Smith was doing OK.

"As you can see, we leave our mark wherever we go," Mulkey quipped. "No, Sa'Myah is fine for those of you who are concerned. Sa'Myah is fine I'll assure you of that."

"She's kind of, right now, embarrassed. She doesn't want to leave, she wants to stand with us but she needs to be checked out."

Biden, and First Lady Jill Biden, invited Mulkey and LSU for a commemorative ceremony for winning the NCAA championship at the White House. Last month, Mulkey led the Tigers to the program's first national title, scoring 102 points in its win over Iowa and star Caitlin Clark in Dallas.

As it was Mulkey's fourth visit to the White House and fourth different president she's celebrated with, Biden joked about her frequently at visiting the nation's capitol.

"She's been with 19 presidents" Biden said. "But this maybe her best moment, with this team. It was less than a year ago, they had never played together.

"Coach, you're Hall of Fame, I tell you. Is this getting old for you, winning all the time?"

LSU captured its first national title in just Mulkey's second season at the helm in Baton Rouge.

The Tigers finished 34-2, including starting the season 23-0 before its first loss at then No. 1 South Carolina. They made their way through the NCAA Tournament, knocking off Hawaii, Michigan, Utah and Miami before reaching the program's first Final Four since 2008.

At the Final Four in Dallas, LSU beat Virginia Tech before upsetting favorite Iowa in the championship game.

"I'm sure I'll be seeing you next year and the next year," Biden said to Mulkey.

Along with team captains Angel Reese and Emily Ward, Mulkey presented the Bidens each with a No. 46 LSU basketball jersey with "POTUS" and "FLOTUS", short for President and First Lady of the United States, on the back.
