Tennessee starting cornerback Warren Burrell is among four players out for the Vols' game against Akron today, but linebacker Juwan Mitchell is active for the first time this season.

Linebacker Kwauze Garland, cornerback Dee Williams and offensive tackle Jeremiah Crawford join Burrell as the inactive players, according to a team spokesperson.

Mitchell missed the first two games of the season for what coach Josh Heupel indicated was an injury. On Thursday, he said he was "hopeful" Mitchell would be available to make his season debut.

Ball State wide receiver Yo'Heinz Tyler (6) loses the ball while tackled by Tennessee defensive back Warren Burrell (4) during football game between Tennessee and Ball State at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn. on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022.

Mitchell, a Texas transfer, has yet to make an impact for the Vols. He led the Longhorns in tackles in 2020, transferred to Tennessee in 2021 and missed most of last season with a shoulder injury.

Mitchell has been listed as a co-starter at middle linebacker alongside Aaron Beasley for the first two games this season. But he hasn’t played yet in 2022.

Williams, a junior college transfer, has not played for Tennessee yet. Garland also missed the Pitt game.
