ACHS’ girls’ track team wins Region III - 1A championship, boys’ finish third
The Ascension Catholic Track team competed at the Region III 1-A Track Meet on Wednesday, April 29. The Girls’ team finished in first place.
Leading the Girls was Maerys Joseph, who finished first place in the 800-meter run (2:25) and first place in the 400-meter run (1:01). Stephanie Breaux finished first place in the 1600-meter run (5:43), and first place in the 3200-meter run (12:38).
Also qualifying for the State Meet were, Sophie Daigle in the 3200-meter (12:53), Whitney Eure in the 800-meter (2:32), Kenshell Davis in the Shot Put (31’10”), Jordynn Brown in the 100-meter hurdles (18.62), Gabbie Klack in the 200-meter (26.99), Nyah Williams in the 300-meter hurdles (53.16), and Brandi Landry in the pole vault (6’6”). The girls also qualified all three relay teams with the girls 4x100 -meter relay finishing third (51.78), the 4x200 relay team finishing second with a school record time of (1:50.90), and the 4x400 relay team finishing second with a school record time of (4:19.87).
The boys ‘team finished in third place overall. They were led by Zach Capello who was named Most Valuable Track Athlete for winning first place in the 1600-meter run (4:47), first place in the 800-meter run (2:03), and second place in the 3200-meter run (11:07). Capello also joined with teammates Hayes Rousseau, Dylan Landry, and Jesse Hood to win third place in the boys’ 4x400m Relay with a school record time of (3:36.92). Other State meet qualifiers were: Trey Capello first in the 3200-meter run (10:53), Thomas Daigle second in the 1600-meter run (4:50), Jesse Hood finished third in the 800-meter run (2:06). Sam Mattingly finished second pole vault (9’6”) and D.C. Mattingly finished third javelin (145’6”).
The above qualifiers will now compete at the LHSAA State Track meet on Friday, May 9 at LSU.
