Chief releases All-Parish baseball team

After an eventful baseball season that saw five of the six Ascension high-school teams make the playoffs, the Donaldsonville Chief has released its All-Parish team.

Ascension Catholic was one of the two teams that reached the state quarterfinals. The Bulldogs went 18-8 during the regular season, won the district championship and earned a No. 3 playoff seeding. They fell to sixth-seeded Vermillion Catholic in the quarters.

Their district counterpart Ascension Christian progressed as a program as they finished with a solid 17-7 regular-season record and made the playoffs, but they were upset by St. Edmund in a one-run heartbreaker in the first round.

Dutchtown went 17-12 during the regular season, but like the Lions, they were eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs after a barn-burner with Acadiana.

East Ascension also had their season ended in the first round. The Spartans finished the regular season 14-14, but they were eliminated by district foe Catholic on the road.

Other than Ascension Catholic, St. Amant had the most successful season. The Gators finished the regular season with a 16-10 record and finished second in the district.

St. Amant pulled off road upsets over No. 9 Sam Houston and No. 8 Brother Martin in the opening two rounds of the playoffs before being eliminated by top-seeded and eventual state champion Barbe in the quarterfinals.
