The Baton Rouge area contains some of the best baseball players the state has to offer. It should be no surprise that Ascension Parish makes up much of this talented base.

In the recent Baton Rouge area All-Metro baseball teams, many of the parish’s top standouts were recognized.

One of the top names on the list was St. Amant’s Blayne Enlow. The soon-to-be senior was a first-team All-Metro selection on the 5A and 4A squad.

The LSU commit had a terrific junior season that saw him go 6-4 on the mound with 93 strikeouts as he helped lead the Gators to the state quarterfinals. It was their third trip in the past four years.

For his superb play, Enlow has raked in the postseason honors. He was Co-District 5-5A MVP, the Parish’s Pitcher of the Year, first-team All-State and he recently made the first cut in the 18U National Team tryout.

Teammate Adam Sevario also made the All-Metro first team after he hit .366 with 23 RBIs.

The Florida International signee capped off his career at St. Amant by being named first-team all-district and Parish MVP.

Another Gator infielder that made the All-Metro first team was Ivan Prejean. The Nicholls State commit hit .347 in his junior season and collected 24 RBIs. He was also first-team all-district and All-Parish.

Zane Zeppuhar was an honorable mention selection. He also earned a spot on the all-district and All-Parish first teams.

Dutchtown had one player make first-team All-Metro in Northwestern State signee Caleb Ricca. The senior hit .374 from the plate and went 4-1 with four saves from the mound as he helped the Griffins make the playoffs in 2016.

Ricca was also first-team all-district and All-Parish.

Teammate Payton Stafford—who is also a Northwestern State signee—made honorable mention. Stafford earned first-team all-district and All-Parish honors.

Two East Ascension players were honorable mention selections on the All-Metro squad.

Senior Austin McInnis made the team after helping guide the Spartans to the playoffs this year. The Southern signee was first-team all-district and second-team All-Parish.

Teammate Ryan Williams was also honorable mention All-Metro. He was first-team all-district and All-Parish.

Finally, five Ascension Catholic players made the Class 3A and below team.

Junior pitcher Landon Clifton made the first-team squad after going 7-2 in 2016 with 77 strikeouts. Clifton was also District 6-1A MVP, first-team All-State and first-team All-Parish as he helped the Bulldogs win district and reach the state quarterfinals for the third straight season.

Also on the All-Metro first team was Mason Zeringue. As a freshman, he hit .375 and made first-team all-district and All-Parish. He was also honorable mention All-State.

Nick Bellina was first-team All-Metro after hitting a blistering .455 with 30 RBIs. Bellina was first-team all-district and All-State and second-team All-Parish.

Finally, both infielder Ross Ponville and pitcher David Girior were named honorable mention All-Metro selections.

Both players earned all-district honors. Ponville was All-Parish, while Girior was honorable mention All-State.
