Chief unveils its All-Parish baseball team

With another great baseball season in the books, the Donaldsonville Chief has unveiled its All-Parish team.

In 2018, five of the six Ascension Parish high-school programs reached the playoffs. Three of those teams reached the state quarterfinals.

The team that had the most success was Ascension Catholic. The Bulldogs went 29-9 and brought home the Division-IV state title. It was the baseball team’s first state championship since 1994.

St. Amant won eight of their final nine regular-season games and reached the state quarterfinals for the fourth time in six years.

There, they were eliminated by Sulphur. They finished the year with a record of 21-15.

Dutchtown fought through a mid-season losing streak to catch fire in the playoffs. They upset both Mandeville and Northshore to reach the state quarterfinals for the first time since 2014.

The Griffins were eliminated by second-seeded Sam Houston one round short of Sulphur. Their final record was 20-19.

Finally, Ascension Christian finished the regular season with a solid 24-8 record and reached the playoffs.

In the postseason, they were beaten, 2-1, in their best-of-three road series against second-seeded Ouachita Christian.
