Tiger's basketball tipping off
Donaldsonville High School is nearing tip-off for its basketball season and for a pre-season warm-up it scrimmaged against Glen Oaks and Redemptorist High Schools last Saturday.
Tigers head coach Barry Whittington's team appears young on paper but handled the 12-minute scrimmage games with intensity. Starting for the Tigers this year will be two freshmen, a sophomore, a junior and a senior, so Whittington said in the scrimmage he was looking to see how they could handle a few new things he threw at them, but also just see if the team could do the things it is coached to do.
"For the most part I saw that today," Whittington said. "We got a long way to go, we're really young, but I like what I saw today. It showed me what our potential is and how good we can be."
The starters consist of: Anthony Jackson, Drew Rosemond, Braxton Bernard, Jalen Pedescleaux and Stephen Sullivan. Whittington liked what he saw from them and believes the team can have a solid season.
"If we do the things we are supposed to do, play to our potential, we have a chance to be a great team."
Note: The scrimmages were played without a calculated score.
The Tigers open their season tonight with a four team Jamboree at home. The time is yet to be announced.
