Lady Bulldogs blow out Berwick in season opener

The Ascension Catholic Lady Bulldogs got off to a dominating start to the 2015-16 basketball season as they crushed Berwick in their opener, 64-20.
Story of the game: The Lady Bulldogs took control of the game early, racing out to a 23-8 lead after one quarter. By halftime, they were up, 36-15. Berwick did not score a single point in the third quarter. Overall, Ascension Catholic out-scored them, 28-5, in the second half.
Players of the game: The Lady Bulldogs were led by returning first-team all-district performer Rae'Shaun Melancon as she drilled four 3-pointers that helped her total a game-high 33 points. Rodnekia Mitchell followed with 18. Meagan Brooks had 11. For Berwick, M.J. Melancon led the way with 8 points. None of their players were able to score in double-figures.
Upcoming schedule: On Thursday, Dec. 17, Ascension Catholic will visit Donaldsonville. The next evening, they'll host Southern Lab in their first district game.
