On Wednesday, Feb. 3, two of Donaldsonville High School’s star football players signed full athletic and academic scholarships. Tyler Brown signed with Southern University, and Tyarise Stevenson signed with the University of Tulsa.

Both Brown and Stevenson began their football journies at the age of 5. Brown realized that he had potential during his sophomore season, when UL-Lafayette, Tulane, Southern and Arkansas State expressed an interest in him.

He hesitated before making a commitment to any college, but realized that Southern has offered him everything he needs “to be successful on the field and in academics.”

In addition to playing wide receiver for the Southern Jaguars, Brown will study mass communications.

While Brown's talent became clear to him in high school, Stevenson had his revelation in middle school, when he realized he had “size, talent and potential.”

Stevenson visited with Coach Norwood and Coach Ashley in Oklahoma on Jan. 23, and decided to play defensive tackle for the University of Tulsa, where he will also pursue a degree in marketing.

The administration, coaches, faculty, staff and family are extremely proud of these two young men. Their hard work on the field and in the classroom has been worth all of their efforts.
