All six Ascension Parish high schools won on Friday night, and as a result, many local teams moved up in the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association football polls.

The highest-ranked team in the parish is now East Ascension.

The Spartans went on the road Friday night and upset 10th-ranked Catholic to take total control of the No. 1 spot in District 5-5A. This was the first time East Ascension had beaten the Bears since 2011.

It was the sixth straight win for the Spartans as they improved to 7-1.

In the LSWA Class 5A poll, they jumped up two spots to No. 9. This is the first time they’ve been ranked in the top 10 all season.

This week, the Spartans will play in their home finale, a district clash with 4-4 McKinley.

Also ranked in the Class 5A top 10 was St. Amant.

The Gators bounced back from their upset loss to Dutchtown by rolling over McKinley, 38-7.

The victory put them in a three-way tie with Ruston and Rummel for 10th in the rankings.

St. Amant, now 7-1, will go on the road to face 1-7 Broadmoor.

West Monroe remains No. 1 in 5A, with John Curtis, Evangel, Scotlandville and Covington rounding out the rest of the top five.

In Class 3A, Donaldsonville moved up two spots to No. 15 after rolling through Lusher Charter, 54-16.

The 6-2 Tigers were desperate for the victory after dropping two straight games. It was their first win in District 10-3A.

Donaldsonville will host winless Haynes Academy this Friday night.

Their district counterpart, De La Salle remains No. 1 in 3A, with University, Sterlington, West Feliciana and Iowa rounding out the rest of the top five.

In Class 1A, Ascension Catholic stayed in the No. 12 spot.

The Bulldogs bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 30-6 district victory over White Castle on Friday night.

Ascension Catholic, now 7-1, is set for a huge road district clash against No. 2 Kentwood (7-1) on Friday night.

Logansport is No. 1 in Class 1A. After Kentwood, Opelousas Catholic, Haynesville and Oak Grove round out the rest of the top five.
