Now with fall scrimmages are out of the way, it's on to the next phase of the high-school football season. It's time for jamborees.

High-school teams from across the state will play these exhibition games this week and get their first taste of in-game action. It'll be a dress rehearsal for the regular season, which begins on Aug. 30-31.

All six Ascension Parish squads are set for jamboree action this week.

Starting first in Class 1A, the Ascension Catholic Bulldogs will be making the trip to New Roads to participate in Catholic of Pointe Coupee's jamboree. While they're there, they'll face off against Episcopal of Class 2A.

The game should be a great measuring stick for Ascension Catholic. Episcopal is coming off of an 8-2 season in which they reached the second round of the Division-III playoffs.

The Bulldogs are coming off of their best season in 25 years. They also went 8-2 during the regular season and finished the year off with a trip to the Division-IV state title game.

Their clash with Episcopal will be at 6 p.m. on Friday night.

Ascension Christian is looking to keep the program's momentum moving forward as they come off of two seasons in which they collected a total of 15 wins.

The Lions will host a four-team jamboree on Friday night.

East Iberville will play The Church Academy for two quarters, followed by Ascension Christian playing Houma Christian for one quarter.

Houma Christian will then meet St. John for one quarter, and the night will end with the Lions playing St. John for one final period.

Action begins at 5:30.

St. John is an old District 6-1A rival of Ascension Christian's. The Lions played Houma Christian last season. They lost that game by a score of 41-15.

In Class 3A, the Donaldsonville Tigers are faced with the tall task of reloading after losing a bundle of seniors from a team that went 7-3 and reached the second round of the playoffs in 2017.

On Thursday night, they'll hit the road for jamboree action against West St. John at 5:30. The Tigers beat the Rams in last year's jamboree.

In 2017, West St. John went 7-2 and won the Class 1A state title.

In Class 5A, Dutchtown will host a jamboree on Thursday night. The Griffins are trying to build on a productive first season under head coach Guy Mistretta.

The Griffins turned their record around from 3-7 to 6-4 and won a playoff game.

In their jamboree, they'll face Denham Springs--a team that went 6-4 last season and reached the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets beat Dutchtown handily in last year's jamboree at Denham Springs.

The varsity tussle between the two teams will begin at roughly 7 p.m..

East Ascension is coming off of an 8-2 campaign that saw them win a share of the District 5-5A title and reach the second round of the playoffs.

For the second straight season, they'll host a jamboree against Woodlawn. The Spartans lost last year's scrimmage against the Panthers by a score of 7-6.

Woodlawn went 6-4 last season and reached the Class 4A playoffs.

This Friday night's clash between the two schools will begin at roughly 8 p.m.

The St. Amant Gators are coming off of a 9-1 campaign that netted them a share of the District 5-5A title and a trip to the second round of the playoffs.

They'll host a jamboree on Friday night against Central. The Wildcats are coming off of a rough season that saw them finish just 4-6.

The varsity game will begin at roughly 8 p.m.
