The recruiting clock is ticking for Shazz Preston.

The four-star Class of 2022 receiver is set to sign during the early signing period beginning Dec. 15. He is uncommitted and will choose from four teams — Alabama, LSU, Georgia and Texas.

Preston will make an official visit to Alabama this weekend according to his father, Shawn Preston Sr.

Preston has had in-home visits from colleges in the past week. Texas made two visits with coach Steve Sarkisian, and LSU and Alabama sent assistant coaches.

Preston and his family have also kept their eyes on social media and observing different movements made around college football with current coaching changes.

“Everybody is making their last push,” Shawn Preston Sr. said. “We are making sure that we have all the information that we need in order to make a firm decision. There are different things we were looking for such as what are their plans for us, how he’ll be used in their system, going over depth charts and other recruits and things like that.

"We’re just doing our due diligence.”

Shawn Preston Sr. said Shazz hasn’t made a final decision yet. Shawn Sr. said Shazz is focused on the final week of his recruitment and won't speak to media until after his decision is announced on Dec. 15.

“We’re just taking one day at a time,” Shawn Sr. said. “There is no pressure. This is actually an enjoyment. We’re enjoying the last couple days of a 3-4 year process. We’ve got four good choices and we would be happy with going to either one of them.”

The 6-foot, 190-pound Preston is ranked as the No. 58 prospect in the country according to the 247Sports Composite. He is the No. 4 prospect in Louisiana and one of three among the top five recruits who has yet to commit.

Preston, who helped St. James win the Class 3A state championship in 2019, caught 57 catches for 633 yards and eight touchdowns during the regular season. He has played receiver, defensive back and kick returner.

St. James football coach Robert Valdez praised Preston for handling his entire college recruiting with class.

“He’s handled it well," Valdez said. “He has a great personality. He’s always been team first. He’s going to reap the benefits for how he’s handled it. It just says a lot about the work that he has put in.”
