Four parish softball teams make the playoffs

With the softball regular season coming to an end yesterday, the LHSAA playoff brackets have just been released. Four parish teams made the field.

In Class 5A, the St. Amant Lady Gators earned the highest parish seeding at No. 3.

St. Amant ended the season on a 16-game winning streak and won 21 of their final 22 games. This included an undefeated district champion run.

With a final record of 23-4, the Lady Gators will host No. 30 John Ehret in the opening round on Monday evening.

Also in 5A, Dutchtown made the playoffs as the No. 16 seed. The Griffins went 19-14 during the regular season.

In the opening round, they’ll hit the road to face 16th-seeded Destrehan (21-10).

In the newly-formed Division IV, Ascension Catholic earned the No. 9 overall seed.

The Lady Bulldogs are coming off of an undefeated district title run. They finished with an overall record of 13-12-1.

In the opening round, they’ll visit No. 8 St. Edmund (11-14).

Ascension Christian made the playoff field as a No. 14 seed. They finished the regular season with a 12-10 record.

In the first round, they’ll visit third-seeded Cedar Creek (19-11).
