Track teams compete in regional meets
After successful performances in the district meets last week, both Ascension Catholic and Donaldsonville’s track teams competed in regional action.
The Lady Bulldogs were coming off of a fourth straight district title, while the boys finished in third.
The Ascension Catholic girls ran away with the Region III - 1A Meet at Ponchatoula High, outscoring runners-up Covenant Christian, Kentwood and White Castle, 127-72.
Once again, the Lady Bulldogs dominated the track.
Maerys Joseph won both the 400 (1:01.51) and the 800 (2:19.19). Teammate Victoria Eure was runner-up in the 400, and Whitney Eure finished third in the 800.
Sophie Daigle won the 1,600 with a time of five minutes and 39.21 seconds, while teammate Stephanie Breaux finished second.
Daigle also won the 3,200 with a time of 12 minutes and 28.71 seconds. Teammate Breanna Bernard was runner-up in the event.
Ascension Catholic earned their final two track wins from the 4 x 400 relay team and Breaux. Breaux won the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.16.
From the field, the Lady Bulldogs achieved two victories.
Carson Hitzman won the javelin event with a throw of 110 feet and seven inches. Teammate Bailey LeBlanc finished third.
Finally, Kenshell Davis won the shot put with a measurement of 33 feet and 8.25 inches. Davis also finished third in the discus.
The Ascension Catholic boys finished in a two-way tie for second with Kentwood. Southern Lab won the event by a margin of 113-88.
From the track, the Bulldogs earned their lone victory from Thomas Daigle as he won the 800 with a time of two minutes and 5.87 seconds. Teammate Hayes Rousseau was runner-up.
Daigle also finished third in the 3,200. Rousseau finished third in the 300 hurdles.
From the field, Rousseau won the javelin event with a throw of 137 feet and four inches.
Kebori Hunter won three separate events. He won the high jump (5-10), the long jump (20-09) and the triple jump (41-09).
The Bulldogs’ final field win came from Luke Spano as he won the pole vault with a vault of an even eight feet.
Donaldsonville was coming off of a fifth-place finish for the boys at the district meet and a seventh-place finish for the girls.
Donaldsonville athletes competed in the Class 3A, Region 3 meet at Jewel Sumner. Both the boys and girls finished in 11th. The West Feliciana boys and Lusher girls won the meets.
The Tigers were only able to earn one top-three finish. That came from Davon Wright in the shot put event when he finished as runner-up with a measurement of an even 50 feet.
No competitor earned a top-three finish for the Lady Tigers.
