Ascension Catholic's Maerys Joseph.

The best track stars in Louisiana were found on this year’s All-State squad, and that included three standouts from Ascension Parish.

For the girls, Ascension Catholic’s Maerys Joseph was an All-State selection in the 800 event. Joseph had the state’s fourth-best time this year as she finished in two minutes and 16 seconds.

Joseph achieved that time when she won her third straight 1A state title in the event last month. That performance helped her Lady Bulldog squad take home their second straight state championship.

The only other female track performer from Ascension that made the All-State team was Dutchtown’s Leah Scott. Scott made the team for both the long jump and the triple trump events.

Her measurement of 18 feet and four inches in the long jump was the second-best in the state this season. Her measurement of 37 feet and 8.25 inches in the triple jump was the third-best.

Scott had a phenomenal year. Not only did she win 5A state titles in both events, she was named the Baton Rouge area’s female All-Metro MVP.

The only male performer from the parish to make All-State was St. Amant’s Keilyn Raven.

Raven made the squad for the long jump. His measurement of 23 feet and 6.5 inches was the fifth-best in the state.

In addition to making the All-Metro team, Raven was runner-up in the long jump event at both the District 5-5A meet and the 5A state meet.
