The Ascension Catholic track teams competed in the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Invitational meet at Catholic High of Baton Rouge last week.

In an event filled with 4A and 5A heavyweights, the girls came away with a sixth-place finish, while the boys finished in seventh.

The girls’ only victory from the field came from Kenshell Davis. Davis won the shot put event with a measurement of 32 feet and 6.5 inches.

From the track, the Lady Bulldogs were led by Sophie Daigle.

Daigle had a huge day as she won two events. She took the 800 with a time of two minutes and 26.9 seconds, and she won the 1,600 with a time of five minutes and 28.3 seconds.

Daigle is the defending Class 1A state champion in the 1,600.

Teammate Haley Dupre finished as runner-up in the 1,600 with a time of five minutes and 42 seconds.

Breanna Bernard finished as runner-up in the 3,200 with a time of 12 minutes and 20 seconds.

For the boys, their only top-three finish came from Thomas Daigle. He also secured their lone victory of the day as he took the 800 title with a time of one minute and 59.3 seconds.

Daigle finished as Class 1A state runner-up in the 800 last year.
