Lady Bulldogs continue to roll in district play

Ascension Catholic's volleyball team continued their stellar play last week as they made a flawless run through their district schedule.

The Lady Bulldogs earned their fifth straight win in district and their sixth win in seven matches on Oct. 7, when they beat St. John in straight sets.

The Lady Bulldogs took a firm grasp of the first set as they rolled out to a 25-13 advantage.

St. John put up much more resistance in the second and third frames, but Ascension Catholic was able to pull through with 25-22 and 25-20 victories.

Many of the Lady Bulldogs put forth great performances in the key district win.

Once again, Grace Villa led the way as she came through with a team-high 12 kills and 17 digs.

Rae'Shaun Malancon followed behind with eight kills and two blocks, while Carson Dunn had 15 digs.

Michayla Spano also had a huge outing as she piled up a team-high 28 assists, along with nine digs and two kills.

Ascension Catholic kept up their strong district play on Oct. 12, as they hosted White Castle.

The Lady Bulldogs rolled to another straight-sets victory.

It was never close. Ascension Catholic won by scores of 25-10, 25-10 and 25-9.

Spano led the team with 25 assists, while Villa had eight kills, three digs, one block and one ace.

Julia Beck chipped in with six kills and six digs.

The victory helped Ascension Catholic increase their win streak to four matches. It was also their seventh victory in eight matches.

The win over White Castle also brought the Lady Bulldogs' overall record to 19-8. It brought them to 5-1 in district play.

On Saturday, they'll play both Houma Christian and Morgan City , and on Oct. 19, they'll visit Central Catholic.
