The Houston Texans have signed Alabama football graduate assistant Shyheim Carter following a workout last week, per Aaron Wilson.

Carter spent four years playing defensive back at Alabama, including two seasons at Star. He recorded 101 tackles and three interceptions in 50 games.

After going undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft, Carter signed as a UDFA with the New York Jets. He did not make the 53-man roster but was added to the Atlanta Falcons practice squad for the remainder of the season.

In February, Carter returned to Tuscaloosa as a graduate assistant and began work during spring practice.

The Texans invited Carter to rookie minicamp last week and added him to the 90-man offseason roster on Sunday.
