To some there is no football better than the little leagues, and in Donaldsonville the Redskins sure make it hard to deny that fact. The Donaldsonville Redskins football teams have four divisions: A, which is 11-12 year olds, B, 9-10 year olds, C, 7-8 year olds, and D, 5-6 year olds. All of the divisions are headed for the Capital City Youth Alliance Superbowl on Saturday after finishing the season undefeated.

Head coach of the B team Patrick Butler has been with the Donaldsonville League for 25 years now and he's seen a lot of talent come through this area, many of which he coached. Names like Jarvis Green and Corey Webster who have gone on to professional football, all have come through the hands of Butler and the Donaldsonville Redskins.

"We started the Redskins back up last year and all four of our teams made it to the Superbowl in the first year we got in the Capital City Youth Alliance," Butler said, who also played Redskin football as a child. "We won three out of the four last year. We back again and are looking for a clean sweep this year."

All four Redskins teams won last Saturday in the first round to advance to the championship game. Team A will be playing against the Bayou State Tigers from Baton Rouge, team's B and C will take on the White Castle Kings, and team D will go up against the Gardere Packers. Butler expects the games to be tough, but for the Redskins to return to Donaldsonville with four trophies.

"We have tremendous athletes here in Donaldsonville. We have athletes here in this little town, athletes," Butler said, emphasizing the talented children in the community. "When you mention the Donaldsonville Redskins that rings a bell from here to Baton Rouge to anywhere. People know about the Donaldsonville Redskins."

Butler said he retiring after this season, he promised his wife he would so that he could spend more time with her and his son Patrick Butler Jr. who is a sophomore at Ascension Catholic High School and is the star of its football team.
