Joshua siblings represent well at Hershey State Track Meet

Two athletes from Ascension Parish Area participated in the Hershey State Meet in Lafayette on June 28. Meghan Joshua and her brother Miles Joshua have participated in the Donaldsonville local meet for the last three years. This year's local meet was held on May 3 at Donaldsonville High School Track. Both Meghan and Miles along with several kids from the Lafayette area earned their way for a chance to participate at the State meet. Meghan, in the 9/10 year-olds girls’ division, finished first Place in the 50-meter dash, second place in the100-meter dash and eighth place in the Softball Throw. There were over 50 9/10 year-old girl participates.
Miles, competing in the 7/8 year-old boys’ division, finished fifth place in the 50-meter dash, fifth place in the 100-meter dash and 13th place in the Softball Throw. There were over 40 7/8 year-old boy participates. Because of Meghan's first place win in the 50-meter she is now in the running to be selected to participate in the National track meet which is held in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
“I am so proud of both of the Ascension Parish Hershey participates, they did an excellent job of representing the Parish,” Ajia Mitchell said, program coordinator for Ascension Parish Recreation. “This year Hershey is said to be the last and the Ascension Parish Recreation Department has participated in the Hershey Track and Field for the last three years. I want to think all the past and current participants of this event. We hope that the Hershey State board finds a way to continue this event for future participants.”
